Folk Dance

Last night, Véronique took Mariel and me to a community center in another small town nearby for an evening of learning folk dances. The first half of the evening was spent in learning dances and dancing with a recording, but the second half was composed of dances with the accompaniment of a small band. I brought my fiddle and was able to play with the band!

We did several traditional french dances as well as an Israeli one.

One of the dances was to the same tune as a dance that I learned in Québec. Maybe one time I can teach them my version of that dance.

This was the leader of the band. I'll be sending him some NYS folk music for us to play next time! They agreed to let me teach a traditional dance from NYS.

Véronique enjoyed taking pictures of me.

We had two accordions, a flute, two fiddles and a guitar. It was a pretty good balance of instruments.

Afterward, since Véronique's house was on the way home from the dance, we stopped by. She fed us champagne and cookies and we got to spend some quality time with her little Shih Tzu.

Mariel tried playing the violin...she sounds promising!

It was cozy in her house with lamps and a fire.

Mariel and Véronique even got in some chess playing.

On the way home, we stopped and saw the church in Barentin. Every evening it is lit up. It looks beautiful up on the hill above the city.
