Christmas Market in Rouen
The Christmas market season has arrived in Rouen! Last week, two of my friends, Simran and Jenny, accompanied me to the market to see the booths and the lights.
The first thing we had to do was get vin chaud. (This is just the french word for mulled wine.) It was boiling in huge copper cauldrons in booths all over the market.
Here we all are with our little cups of vin chaud. Christmas markets make three happy girls. The little, old woman who took are picture was so cute!
Simran and Jenny wanted to send letters to Father Christmas.
I just wanted to inspect and see if there were reindeer or anything at the end of the mail chute.
There was lots of cheese and saucisson...
...and exotic looking teas and candies.
There were piles of chocolate in every flavor...
...and also in every shape! Chocolate tools, who would have thought.
One booth was selling the most intricate cards I had ever seen. Apparently those cards collapse and go in an envelope, but I don't see how that could possibly happen...
More russian nesting dolls than I've ever seen in my life...
...and so many tiny boxes!
One woman was selling "Santons," which are little ceramic statues for crèches that are made in the south of France. I have another blog post that includes more pictures of Santons. Click here if you want to see more about santons.
When we went to the Christmas market, it was the very first day and it was also the day when they turned on the Christmas lights in Rouen! It makes me happy whenever I see them!
What a nice day with fun friends!

ReplyDeleteMulled wine sounds like it would be delicious in the 3 degree weather we currently have in Buffalo. The chocolates look amazing as well!
